Chicago Red Cross Stories

The American Red Cross has given me a voice. I have loved being able to write for this organization because I know they make an impact and help promote the Red Cross mission. The blog, "Recognizing Local Heroes" was published on Motorola's page, an accomplishment I am very proud of. Listed below are samples of my work:

Guadalajara: The city of my dreams

Guadalajara: The city of my dreamsI spent a semester studying abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico. Although I already loved this city I fell deeper in love with the culture and lifestyle. This city is so full of art and interesting things to look at that I found it hard to narrow down all of the sights and experiences I had and share them through the DePaul University Study Abroad blog. I was chosen to write for this blog about my adventures and I am sharing the link to the blog site on this page. Simply click on the image above and you can now enjoy reading about the places and events that I found interesting. Maybe you too will become inspired to visit this lovely city.

The Eyes of Horus

From the minute the sun rises to when the moon is high in the sky, a camera is capable of capturing the essence of life. No matter what time of day, it is able to seize a fragment of time. The camera is like the eyes of Horus and Ra. Horus was the ancient Egyptian sky god. His right eye was associated with the sun god, Ra, and the left eye, the Eye of Horus, represented the moon. The Eye of Ra and similarly the Eye of Horus, can be seen as very powerful entities that either caused harm or protected one from it, but they are also associated with renewal and, particularly the Eye of Ra, the creative process of the sun god. This is what the photography and artwork found in this blog represent. They range of all types because at every moment of the day, lightness and darkness work together to create the images of life. Each time of day gives fruit to its own branch of photography. For instance, daylight allows for one to capture the nuances of daily activities. The darkness becomes a canvass and light our tools. Then there are the works of art that are not taken with a camera. I like to take what I find and create something new from them, a form of renewal. While light and darkness do not physically impact the outcome of the artwork, they do serve as sources of inspiration. They allow me to envision the ways to artificially recreate them in an artwork. I do not claim to take professional photographs, but I do offer ways in which anyone can become inspired to use light and darkness to make manifest emotions and ideas. This is meant to exercise developing skills and to really just capture those moments that we all want to last forever. This is the aim of The Eyes of Horus and I hope that anyone reading and following this blog will come to realize that our eyes are also powerful things. With the camera as an extension, we too can produce powerful images that speak to us and others.
